Massage Techniques

Hawaiian Lomilomi
(also commonly spelled Lomi Lomi)
Is also called “loving hands” massage and works gently yet deeply into the muscles using continuous, flowing strokes, totally nurturing the body enabling the recipient to relax, give in and simply be. While technique is an important part of the massage and associated healing, much of the work is done by love, with the total focus of the therapist on the client being deep and complete.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia.
Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.

Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the belief that there are reflex areas on the feet (and hands) corresponding to all the parts of the body including major organs. It is believed that applying pressure to specific areas on the feet, hands and ears can affect internal organs and body systems, and therefore promote good health.
The therapist stimulates and works these organs and systems through the reflexes areas on the hands and feet, applying pressure to the feet with thumb and fingers. Pressure is applied to clear out congestion and restore normal functioning and health.

Swedish Massage
Swedish massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well being.
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.

Medical Massage
Medical Massage differs from regular massage in that the treatment is specifically directed to resolve or improve conditions diagnosed by a medical doctor. It focuses on covering a limited anatomical range (not full-body). We make a very careful evaluation of the conditions present in the body and design a treatment plan to get you back into the swing of things swiftly, yet safely. Speaking the same language as the rest of your medical team (physician, physical therapist, etc.), we also want you to understand what we are finding and WHY we are performing the techniques we’ve selected.
We may use a variety of modalities or techniques during Medical Massage, but treatment is focused ONLY on the specific areas of the body related to the diagnosis. Often, by treating the cause of the issue, the symptoms do not return. This enhances the body’s natural self-healing process and reduces the needed recovery time, so we also save you money!
We now accept insurance for Worker’s Compensation, Auto Accident and Personal Injury cases. Please advise us when scheduling your appointment if you wish to bill insurance, as there is additional information we require (i.e., claim number, insurance company contact info, attorney’s contact info, physician’s prescription and contact info, etc.). Medical massage is available WITH or WITHOUT a prescription.

Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a subtle and profound healing form. A light touch of compassion, which facilitates change in areas of restriction. This restriction corresponds to a lack of the capacity of the life force to express its self-healing. A gentle hands-on therapy to rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma.

Visceral Manipulation
A form of manual therapy that focuses on the internal organs, their environment and the potential influence on many structural and physiological dysfunctions.
Visceral Manipulation is based on the specific placement of soft manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. These gentle manipulations can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.
Due to the delicate and often highly reactive nature of the visceral tissues, gentle force precisely directed reaps the greatest results. As with other methods of manipulation that affect the body deeply, Visceral Manipulation works only to assist the forces already at work. Because of that, trained therapists can be sure of benefiting the body rather than adding further injury or disorganization.
